The Pain You Left Me With....

The echo of a distant time,
Comes crashing into my thoughts,
As blackened clouds fall from the sky,
To wrap me in their misty hug,
And I howl like a foghorn,
As I cry my agony to the wind,
It seems I can't forget you,
Or the pain you left me with.

The lightning splits the midnight sky,
And the downpour rains on me,
And the raging storm bellows my name,
With contemptible mockery,
As the shadows roar with laughter,
At my cowardly frightened state,
I have no sanctuary where I can hide,
From the pain you left me with.

I hide myself beneath my eiderdown,
Within the shelter of it's warmth,
It's the closest I get to comfort,
From the anger of the storm,
For it was on a stormy night like this,
When you packed your things and left,
And the wind howls to remind me,
Of the pain you left me with.

As if to mock my feathered warmth,
The rain beats hard on my window pain,
Reminding me of the tears I cried,
To rattle the love I gave in vain,
The love you stole when you went away,
And left my broken heart in bits,
The tears I cry can't ease the agony,
Of the pain you left me with.

So I'll carry on and weather the storm,
That's baptized me so many times,
In it's forever falling rain of tears,
That cry out for my sacrifice,
I gave up everything for you,
I threw away all that I was worth,
Now all that's left is this stormy night,
A reminder of the pain you left me with.
